This March, NUICC will be hosting the National Hybrid Gathering of Urban Indigenous Coalitions from coast to coast to coast. The 30 urban Indigenous coalitions have been invited to participate in the first National Gathering since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the 3-day event NUICC will host Urban Indigenous Knowledge Mobilisation Hub sessions, dedicated to sharing knowledge on about key topics important to urban Indigenous organisations.
We will feature workshops on how urban coalitions share their experiences, build research, and how we can evaluate Canada’s approaches to our urban communities and coalitions’ movement. Delegates will also share knowledge through panels, discussions and workshops on urban Indigenous governance, UNDRIP implementation, and challenging Canada’s distinctions-based framework which harms our urban communities.
We invite coalitions to join as we come together to advance our strategic planning and shape our draft terms of reference as we build a strong NUICC with a good foundation.

About The Event Organizer
The National Urban Indigenous Coalition Council – or NUICC – is an advisory table made up of caucus representatives of Urban Indigenous Coalitions from nearly every province and territory in Canada. NUICC was established in 2019 to engage urban Indigenous organisations, share their unique stories, raise the profile of local perspectives and issues, and to further advance a national dialogue. Trends as reported by StatCan point to growing numbers of Indigenous people in Canada living in urban centres, with estimates of approximately 1,000,000 living off reserve today. Approximately one-quarter of Indigenous people living in urban areas in Canada are living in poverty. Urban organisations which provide support are therefore vital to the overall health of Indigenous Peoples, and to Canadian society.
